A common observation had been that prisoners who became indebted to other people, typically due to drug practices or gambling losings, and/or that has not a lot of cash to purchase commodities they desired, would offer “sexual favours” instead of re re payment or perhaps in substitution for “canteen”.

Other interviewees had seen susceptible people, who had been socially separated and lacked external monetary help, being targeted or “groomed” for sex.
